Are you planning your vacations in Tulum? The caribbean paradise of white and fine sand has big surprises for you, and with the purpose to help you to make your itinerary, today we will tell you everything you need to know before arriving.
Tulum is located in Quintana Roo, south of the Riviera Maya, it is a ancient city on the seashore, dating from year 564: Zama, its name in Mayan, means “City of Dawn”, which sums up the beauty of its landscapes and opens the door to the historical past of pre-Columbian Mexico.
You can get to Tulum by taking the bus from Cancun International Airport (CUN), or you can take a boat from Cozumel International Airport (CZM) to Playa del Carmen and then a bus to what is known as the ancient walled city; you can also take a private taxi or, better yet, book the shuttle service of Orchid House, in which you will get to the hotel safely.
Tulum is a destination where you must spend at least four days to enjoy its attractions to the fullest, so we recommend you to start planning your next vacation in advance so you could visit the best places and stay in one of the suites that we have at Orchid House for you.
If you are looking the best archeological sites, visit:
El Castillo. Iconic construction, located on a cliff of twelve meters high above the sea, offering a spectacular view; it stands out for its size, location, facade and specially for its history since it had a strategic function for the ancient Mayans: vigilance to warn enemy attacks and as a lighthouse for navigators to dodge the coral reef, it’s the second biggest in the world. In the surroundings of El Castillo you will find other ruins such as el Templo de la Serie Inicial or El Templo de los Frescos.
Cobá. In the deep of the tropical rainforest is the Cobá village as well as the archeological zone of the same name, home of the tallest building in Quintana Roo: the Nohoch Mul Pyramid, with forty-two meters high and 120 steps, an extreme experience due to the steepness of the pyramid. In addition to the historic center walk you can rappel down in the cenotes, fly in zip line, visit caverns or sail in the lagoons of Las Mojarras or la Boca del Sapo.
Be sure to visit Sian Ka’an biosphere reserve
Protected by Unesco, it is considered a world heritage site due to their great variety of species that inhabit it. Here you will find the Muyil Lagoon, an aquifer where the waters change from green to blue as well as the famous Route of the Cenotes where you can swim, dive and snorkel.
Tulum is a destination recognized for having the most beautiful beaches in the world The beaches with water from the Caribbean Sea will delight you with its turquoise tones that contrasts with the fine and white sand that gives a heavenly environment that you will not want to leave. In addition, you are away from the festive atmosphere, you can also find tours to visit the turtle sanctuary.
Although the beaches are public, you will have to access through a club, hotel or an archeological zone, such as Playa de las Ruinas, which you can go after your visit El Castillo delighting yourself with white sand that blends with the vegetation, soft waves and the tranquility you are looking for your restful vacation.
Boca Paila is located south of Playa de las Ruinas which is known for its tranquility and beauty. It is a protected area, so it is not inhabited and you can find coral remains, sea stones and other natural beauties.
Another must see destination is Akumal, a magical place to do ecotourism, with activities like diving, snorkeling and swimming. Here you will find coves such as Kantena, Xaac, Media Luna Bay or Yalku Lagoon, where there is a freshwater spring, home of tropical fish of many colors.
Diving off the coast of Akumal is an incredible experience because coral formations are similar to caves and canyons, home of a huge variety of marine faune highlighting the turtles that live in the Caribbean Sea.
